Happy
2010!
The
start of the New Year brings many changes to our local 7th District
Dental Hygienists’ Association and to The Dental Hygienists’ Association of the
State of
New York
(DHASNY).
At
the October Empire Conference/Annual Session I was elected to the position of
Treasurer of DHASNY. This is a wonderful
opportunity for me to serve and represent our dental hygienists with the new
leadership at the state level. I am
excited to be part of the future direction of our dental hygiene profession in
the State of
New York
. My only regret is that I will resign my
position as President of the 7th District Dental Hygienists’
Association as of February 26th. I do
this confident in the knowledge that we have a strong Executive Board and many
strong and willing women to carry on.
During
my last President’s Message I talked about the power of “networking” and the importance of ADHA membership in “Empowering, Supporting and Developing” our
local dental hygienists. As I step down,
I want to express my personal appreciation of belonging to our “professional family.”
Belonging
to your professional organization is more than just politics. Without the hard working people at the levels
of ADHA, DHASNY and 7th District, we would not be able to provide the high standard of care our
patients deserve or provide our dental hygienists with high-quality continuing education
to serve them.
For
me personally, after years in private practice, I learned the importance of “Community”. My “professional
family” has increased my awareness of Community
Dentistry and the overwhelming need for access to care for the under served
in our community. I am proud that we will be actively participating in more of
these initiatives. This is just one of the many ways to be involved in your
professional association. You do not
necessarily have to take a leadership role to be a valued member. Our grass roots members fuel and guide the association.
Lastly,
I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your
President. This is has been an awesome
experience for me. I must say belonging
to the ADHA has…….”unleashed my
potential.”
Yours
in dental health,
Michele
